What is the GSM-network?

GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) is a standard developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) to describe the protocols for second-generation digital cellular networks used by mobile devices such as tablets. It was first deployed in Finland in December 1991. As of 2014, it has become the global standard for mobile communications – with over 90% market share, operating in over 193 countries and territories.[3]

2G networks developed as a replacement for first generation (1G) analog cellular networks, and the GSM standard originally described a digital, circuit-switched network optimized for full duplex voice telephony. This expanded over time to include data communications, first by circuit-switched transport, then by packet data transport via GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) and EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution, or EGPRS).

Subsequently, the 3GPP developed third-generation (3GUMTS standards, followed by fourth-generation (4GLTE Advanced standards, which do not form part of the ETSI GSM standard.

Dancontrol mainly uses GSM (2G/3G) networks to communicate with devices.

How good is the coverage for GSM?

The GSM network is the most widely used wireless network internationally – however, it may vary in signal strength depending on the location of the devices and specific parts of the country.

You can check your coverage via your mobile phone by the 2G network – and then read the signal strength.

You can see our collaborative partners under the menu item GSM Partners.

How long can the SmartTrap preserve power?

The SmartTrap module can easily hold power for up to 1 year, at 2 daily messages.
However, the battery time will vary depending on the signal strength in your area.
When installed in areas with strong signal, battery time will be considerably longer.

We recommend using Lithium batteries to ensure optimum operation at varying temperature influenc

2 Bip: Device is online

Long Bip followed by x number of short Bip:
1 Bip: No SIM card installed
2 Bip: Wrong PIN code
3 Bip: No connection to GSM network
4 Bip: No answer from server
5 Bip: Low battery supply
6 Bip: Communication failure
7 Bip: No registered user
8 Bip: GPRS communication failure
